Introducing Sun Zi's Art of War

Sun Zi’s Art of War is a Chinese book written by Sun Wu, also known as Sun Zi, or sometimes also spelled as Sun Tze or Sun Tzu. It was written in the Spring and Autumn Period (770 – 476 B.C) of Ancient China. It is not only the oldest Chinese military work in existence, but is the oldest work of military theory in the world, well known for a long time in the history of the military academy both in China and abroad.

Not much is known about Sun Zi’s birth and death, except that he was an outstanding military genius that came first on the list of military strategists in Chinese history. He has also been described as the “Military Sage “of China.

There are altogether 13 chapters in the original manuscripts of Sun Zi’s Art of War. Being concise and comprehensive, the book sums up the experience of ancient wars, brings to light the many laws and principles of war which are of universal significance, and shapes the military theory of China for many centuries.

Besides military applications, people have also found that many of the brilliant concepts and theories from the Art of War are also applicable to other areas, such as Business Management, Sales Management and Marketing etc.

Do you think it is similarly applicable to Project Management? I intend to write a series of articles henceforth to discuss this. Welcome also any inputs. Thanks.
